# Tiers

Tiers group members into levels based on how active they are. The more active a member, the higher their tier and the more perks they get. That gives members a reason to keep coming back: if they visit less, they lose their perks. You'll find tiers under **Program \> Tiers**.

During the kick-off, your CSM sets up your tiers for you based on best practice. These look different for each sector. You can adjust them yourself afterwards.

 The overview

For each tier you'll see the card as members see it in the app, the name, the threshold to reach it and the number of perks. Use the icons on the right to edit or delete a tier. Add a new tier via **Create tier**.

![The tiers overview](https://welcome.authic.io/hubfs/CS%20Knowledgebase/029-the-tiers-overview.png)

An example setup for padel, as in the screenshot:

| Tier | Threshold | Perk |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Rookie | 0 minutes played | 1x points |
| Player | 180 minutes played | 1.1x points |
| Challenger | 600 minutes played | 1.2x points |
| Pro | 1,200 minutes played | 1.3x points |
| Legend | 1,800 minutes played | 1.5x points |

 Setting up a tier

For each tier you set:

- **Name and card**: the tier's name (for example Rookie, Pro or Legend) and how the card looks in the app.
- **The threshold**: what a member needs to reach the tier, for example a number of minutes played.
- **Perks**: for example a multiplier, so members earn reward points faster (1.5x points means 90 instead of 60 points). You can also add recurring perks, like a free sample every period.

 Ideas for tier perks

Some perks are handled entirely in the app. Others you give on site when the member shows their tier card.

**In the app**

- **Earn faster**: a higher multiplier per tier, for example 1.1x to 1.5x points.
- **Exclusive rewards**: rewards only members in a certain tier can see, set via Audience on the reward.
- **Extra bonus points**: a bonus points rule that only applies to one tier, for example double points for playing off-peak.
- **Recurring perks**: something free every period, for example a drink or a sample every month.
- **A gift for reaching a tier**: for example a gift that's only visible to the new tier.
- **A bigger birthday reward** for members in a higher tier.

**On site, when the member shows their card**

| Sector | Ideas |
| --- | --- |
| **Padel and sports** | A standing discount on court hire, for example 10% off-peak. Free racket or ball hire. A discount on lessons or clinics. Free entry to one tournament per season. Bring a guest for free once a month. |
| **Beauty** | A standing discount on treatments or products. A free upgrade with a treatment, like an extra mask. A free skin analysis or consultation. First to try new treatments. |
| **Hospitality** | A standing discount on the bill, for example 10%. A free drink or dessert with every visit. Access to tastings or a sneak peek of a new menu. |
| **All sectors** | 10% off at the café, bar or shop. Access to exclusive events. Early access to promotions and new products. |

**Tip:** make your top tier's perks genuinely attractive and visible. Members should feel it's worth working towards.

 Tier settings: the tier cycle

Each member's tier is reassessed after a set period. If a member no longer meets the threshold, they can drop a tier. Click **Edit** in the bar at the top to set this up:

- **Metric**: what members are ranked on, for example **Minutes played**.
- **Number of days**: how long a member keeps their tier before it's reassessed, for example 90 days.

The cycle runs per member, from the moment they reach their tier. So tiers are reviewed member by member, not for everyone on the same date. Click **Confirm** to save.

![Tier settings: metric and number of days](https://welcome.authic.io/hubfs/CS%20Knowledgebase/030-tier-settings-metric-and-number-of-days.png)

**Tip:** start simple, for example with 2 or 3 tiers, and build from there. You can always add a tier or perk later, but taking something away rarely goes down well with members.
